Of course, in any security based work, it is vital that all workers have been appropriately trained, not only to provide suitable, efficient work, but also to ensure the safety of any individuals involved.
As is to be expected, no two companies will provide the exact same training, however it is important that whichever company you chose to train with works to SIA standards; individuals cannot work in security without the appropriate SIA license – it is illegal. Dependent on which area of security you are looking into, there are different qualifications that must be obtained, and under each relevant web page you will find contact details of the SIA endorsed awarding bodies. Within the qualifications, there is now a modular approach – a recent change to the required qualifications system – and the modules covered by each area are:
| Licence
|
Common module | Specialist module | Conflict management | Physical intervention skills |
| Door supervision | Yes | Door supervision | Yes | Yes |
| Security | Yes | Security | Yes | |

| Public space surveillance (CCTV) | Yes | Public space surveillance (CCTV) | ||
| Cash and valuables in transit | Yes | Cash and valuables in transit | ||

It is important to note that Door Supervision training has recently been changed to include further modules, such as:
- Escorting and disengagement skills

- Dealing with 14-18 year olds
- Awareness of terrorist threats
